You've Found Your Community

Welcome to I Like Your Work! My name is Erika b Hess; I'm an artist, host of I Like Your Work, and Artistic Director of  Chautauqua Visual Arts. Additionally I thrive on connecting with artists and connecting artists to each other. I've used my experience to build spaces for YOU so you can thrive.

Below are just two ways you can build your network! The Works and I Like Your Work Community!

I get what it is like to have questions about applying to shows, artist statements and wondering if there was an easier way to "do all the things". That is why I created The Works!

The Works  is a comprehensive membership designed to empower artists at every stage of their careers. This membership combines expert guidance, actionable resources, and a vibrant community to help you thrive.

  • Weekly Lessons and Goals: Four focused lessons each month, complete with practical goals to build your skills and achieve career milestones.

  • Private Artist Community: A supportive network to exchange feedback, gain inspiration, and form meaningful connections with like-minded artists.

  • Live Events and Artist Talks: Exclusive access to insights from industry leaders and personalized critiques to elevate your practice.

  • Resource Library: Essential tools and templates to create standout applications, polish your portfolio, and discover new opportunities.

The Works Membership bridges the gap between the studio and career success. Designed for real-world impact, the program equips you with both the knowledge and confidence to take your practice to the next level.

TESTIMONIALS

The artistic journey can be so isolating but Erika encourages and inspires with the beautiful catalogs she produces and the incredible work that she introduces to our community. She also creates opportunities for so many artists to grow and explore through her online calls for exhibitions which offer free participation for Works members. Generous, warm and authentic, Erika is an inspiration.2- During my time as a Works Member I have learned to trust my work and to prioritize only the opportunities that will move my career forward. Erika's clear minded feedback, compassion and encouragement have also taught me to delegate and to feel comfortable asking for help on big projects. Thanks Erika for all you do to create community and help others!!”

Getting things done that I have been avoiding, I think was massive for me. Just to even start approaching things you have to do, like submitting to shows, which I hadn't been doing so that was a game changer.

This isn’t a grad school replacement but it gives you structure, community, there’s lectures, there’s crits, it’s pretty amazing what you can get from this.

It’s not just for people like me who feel clueless, It’s for anybody who wants a safe space, judgment free sort of feedback, because the subjects run a gamut. It’s anything between structure and technical questions.

You can go there and get really practical, really straightforward and non judgemental responses.

The educational tools and resources offered through The Works membership have proved incredibly useful. I’ve had fantastic responses from galleries regarding my Media Kit, which I didn’t even know was a thing before signing up for The Works! If you are looking to tighten up your art game while having the added benefit of being part of a fun and interesting community of artists, invest in yourself and invest in The Works!

I just really liked your persona. And I just liked how you obviously were out there to help. And I think the critique thing was what was really missing in that (other programs)So my bus and SkyTrain time is my office time, I'm literally working, and you are in my head, my headphones. And I'm listening to you talk about the stuff. So it's like the works really does kind of take off that like avoidant factor when it comes to being a professional artist. And I'm so grateful for it. Because if it wasn't for the program, I wouldn't have sent in two grants, I wouldn't have had a website, which is so important.

Being a Works Member has really helped me give direction to my practice and provided great resources, references, materials, and such practical advice on getting there. I felt like I had hit a brick wall with my artwork website and had no idea how to get it to a place that I would be really happy to share it with people. Listening to the podcast episodes combined with the Works resources gave me really great guidance and helped me structure and organize my website, as well as great ideas for where I could go with it. Being a Works Member helps me not only discover great resources but I love discovering new artists or people in the Arts industry through I Like Your Work. I should mention it is such a welcoming community, and even with my overwhelming virtual-platform "stagefright" I feel comfortable contributing.”
