CURATOR STATEMENT
Themes of memory, perception, experience, and imagination permeate this exhibition. The selected work is diverse by nature–contrasting moments of warmth and tenderness with nostalgia and melancholy. Interior and exterior landscapes are referenced through visual narratives that feel both intimate and otherworldly.
Further, the notion of personal metamorphosis is suggested through painting, sculpture and mixed media. A palpable shift from dark to light is present in many of the chosen pieces – not only in color and form, but also in the content of the work itself. Whether it be a hauntingly familiar hallway, a ladder stretching upwards, or lush vegetation emerging from a ceramic vessel, an overall sense of transformation is present throughout.
It was an absolute honor to review and select work for this annual juried show. I was astounded by the artists’ unique perspectives, innovative use of materials, and authentic approach to art-making.
